California Highway Patrol officers conducted more than 9,000 enforcement actions statewide during the 2025 New Year’s Enforcement Period as hazardous winter weather affected road conditions across California.
Officers carried out 9,308 enforcement actions, issuing 5,458 citations and making 379 arrests for driving under the influence, according to CHP.
Speeding remained a significant safety concern, with 2,972 speeding citations issued, including 92 drivers clocked at more than 100 mph, the agency said.
CHP reported six fatal crashes occurred within its jurisdiction during the enforcement period. Speeding, impaired driving and failure to wear seat belts continue to be leading causes of serious and fatal crashes, officials noted.
The agency emphasized that seat belts save lives and urged drivers to buckle up every trip, slow down, especially during adverse weather, and drive sober and focused.
CHP said its mission remains keeping California’s roadways safe, regardless of weather conditions.
