Luxurious private rail travel is coming to California Amtrak routes beginning in January through a new service from travel startup Lunatrain, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The Philadelphia-based company will offer private charter rail cars attached to regularly scheduled Amtrak trains on the Coast Starlight route from Oakland to Los Angeles and the California Zephyr from Emeryville to Denver. Each journey includes two renovated 1950s-era sleeping cars staffed with a chef and steward and designed for parties of up to six.

The cars feature panoramic glass-paneled roofs, plush seating, a dining room with fine china, a media room with a bar, five bedrooms and a master suite with a private bathroom and shower. Trips follow Amtrak schedules but are booked privately through Lunatrain’s online platform.

The 12-hour Oakland-to-Los Angeles trip costs $10,000 per group, while the 36-hour Emeryville-to-Denver journey costs $18,500. Both inaugural trips have already sold out.
