A Hanford man was arrested Monday night after deputies responded to multiple reports of gunfire at a home in the Home Gardens community, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were dispatched at about 6:16 p.m. to the 9500 block of Eastview Drive, where callers reported shots coming from a specific residence. When deputies arrived, they identified the home and contacted a man later identified as Flavio Roberto Villa Aguilar, 41.
Deputies said Aguilar was wearing a black nylon satchel-style bag across his chest and that numerous spent shell casings were scattered across the front yard, including directly beneath where he was initially contacted. As deputies attempted to speak with him, Aguilar tried to retreat into the residence but returned after being instructed to do so multiple times.
When deputies attempted to search him for weapons, Aguilar resisted and reached for the satchel, prompting deputies to physically restrain him. He was arrested without injury, authorities said.
A search of the satchel revealed an unloaded Beretta PX4STORM 9mm pistol with the slide locked to the rear and an empty 10-round magazine inserted, along with 17 live rounds of 9mm ammunition. Deputies said the brand of live ammunition matched the spent casings found in the yard.
An arrest record showed Aguilar is a convicted felon, which prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition, according to the sheriff’s office.
Aguilar was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of live ammunition, negligent discharge of a firearm, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Bail was set at $85,000.
