The female juvenile accused of driving the getaway car in the killing of Caleb Quick appeared in court Tuesday morning, where a judge moved her case forward toward a possible transfer to adult court.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys had planned to schedule the transfer hearing at an Oct. 13 appearance, but that proceeding was delayed after the assigned prosecutor was pulled into another homicide trial, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office told GV Wire.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the transfer hearing was tentatively set for March, though the date could change, the DA’s office said. A separate status and review hearing was scheduled for January.

The status hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., where the court will determine whether it is ready to proceed with the transfer hearing, tentatively set for March 9, 2026, according to the DA.

Shooting Suspect Appears on Oct. 28

The teenager accused in the killing of Quick appeared in court on Oct. 28 morning for the first time since Aug. 25.

Family members of both the suspect and the victim were present during the hearing.

Attorneys on both sides agreed to continue the hearing until Jan. 8, 2026. Tuesday’s hearing was initially expected to focus on determining whether the 16-year-old suspect will be tried as an adult.

The judge ordered that the teenager remain in custody and said he would be allowed to call his mother within 24 hours.

Female Suspect Appears in Court on Oct. 13

The alleged female getaway driver in the murder of Quick appeared in court Oct. 13, according to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

In a previous hearing, both the prosecutor and defense said they were hoping to schedule a transfer hearing at Monday’s hearing.

The transfer hearing will determine whether the suspect will be tried as a juvenile or an adult.

However, the case was continued due to the prosecutor being assigned to a homicide trial in Fresno.

The hope, the DA’s office said, is that the transfer hearing will be set in December for early 2026.

Alleged Getaway Driver Sept. 2 Hearing

The 16-year-old accused getaway driver in the killing of Quick appeared in court on Sept. 2.

At that time, family members of both the suspect and victim attended the hearing, where they exchanged condolences outside the courtroom.

The judge scheduled another settlement conference, at which the defense hoped to set a date for a transfer hearing.

Alleged Shooter’s Aug. 25 Hearing

The 16-year-old accused of killing Quick in what prosecutors have described as an “execution-style” murder appeared in court Aug. 25.

The teen’s last previous court appearance was June 8, when the court confirmed that the transfer memo, which could determine whether he will be tried as an adult, had been received by all parties.

During a June 4 hearing while attempting to secure the minor’s release, the defense alleged that Quick had assaulted multiple individuals. Prosecutors said the allegations were irrelevant to whether the teen suspect should remain in custody.

The hearing drew a larger-than-usual group of family, friends, and supporters for both sides. Quick’s family was joined by parents who have lost children to violence.

The court noted that a statement from Quick’s mother had been received and added to the case file.

The teen suspect will remain in custody and had the opportunity to speak with his mother on the phone.

Timeline of April 23 Murder

The Clovis Police Department described the April 23 homicide as “targeted and planned.”

Police responded to reports of gunfire near Willow and Nees avenues at 8:57 p.m.

Officers found Quick with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators said the suspects arrived in a 2024 white Tesla Model 3 at a McDonald’s restaurant around 7:44 p.m. and left the lot at 8:12 p.m. Quick arrived at 8:22 p.m., followed by the male shooting suspect, who headed toward the restaurant around 8:33 p.m.

The Tesla returned to the parking lot moments later and parked several rows away. Surveillance video showed the shooting suspect entering the McDonald’s at 8:38 p.m., sitting briefly and then following Quick outside.

Police said the shooting occurred at 8:56 p.m. as Quick approached his car. The shooting suspect fled west toward Fresno and climbed into the Tesla about a minute later. A handgun was recovered during a search warrant, Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming said.

Surveillance footage showed the suspects leaving the scene before officers arrived.

Clovis police announced the arrests on May 9. At a news conference the following day, Fleming said both teens were Clovis Unified School District students and knew the victim.
