Fresno police arrested 11 drivers on suspicion of DUI on Saturday during a targeted enforcement operation, the department said.

According to police, drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and can also receive a suspended license.

The department said it will conduct another DUI operation on Dec. 20 and plans additional patrols and checkpoints throughout the year aimed at keeping roadways safe.

Funding for the enforcement effort was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
