A man was arrested Friday after a two-week investigation into an October shooting that left a 29-year-old man injured, police said.

According to the Fresno Police Department, officers were called just after 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 to the area of Fruit and Ashlan avenues after reports of gunfire.

A second caller reported a shooting victim at the same intersection.

Officers found a 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his chest and right shoulder. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

The victim initially told officers he was walking through a nearby apartment complex with a woman when an unknown person yelled and opened fire. But officers canvassing the area found a shattered sliding glass door, bullet strikes and possible blood inside a nearby apartment. A protective sweep revealed no additional victims.

Detectives later interviewed the woman at the apartment, who said the shooting happened inside her unit while several people, including the victim, were gathered at her kitchen table. She told detectives she heard four shots and that everyone ran from the apartment afterward.

Authorities Identify Suspect

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, detectives interviewed a witness who positively identified Eric Ramos as the gunman.

Two days later, at 10:12 a.m., the Fresno Police Department’s Adult Compliance Team located Ramos entering a residence near Nevada Avenue and Seventh Street.

A surround-and-call-out operation was launched, but police said Ramos refused to come out. Crisis negotiators responded, but he continued to refuse surrender.

Around 4:30 p.m., the department’s SWAT team was deployed. After an extended standoff and the use of several diversionary devices, Ramos exited the residence and surrendered.

Ramos was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing ammunition as a prohibited person, and a PRCS violation.
