The city of Fresno has finished a major rehabilitation and safety project along Blackstone Avenue from Minarets to Nees avenues, bringing the roadway up to modern standards for the first time in nearly 30 years, the city said in a statement.
“This stretch of Blackstone hadn’t been touched in nearly three decades,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “By rebuilding the road surface, upgrading all safety features, and bringing in modern bike and pedestrian improvements, we are creating a safer, more accessible Blackstone Avenue for everyone. These upgrades support our Vision Zero goals and are an important investment in our community.”
The project rebuilt and redesigned the six-lane road without removing lanes, introducing features aimed at improving safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Updates include buffered bike lanes, green-painted bikeways, ADA-compliant curb ramps, enhanced median landscaping, and high-visibility crosswalks, the city said.
City officials said the improvements align with Fresno’s Vision Zero Action Plan, a nationwide initiative focused on eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries through street design, speed management, education and enforcement.

Blackstone Corridor Plan
The city said the project fits into a broader plan for the Blackstone corridor and that no lane reductions are planned north of Dakota Avenue.
GV Wire reported that a separate project between Dakota Avenue and Highway 180, scheduled to begin in 2026, will reduce travel lanes, create wider sidewalks, and add bike lanes along the stretch heading south from Dakota Avenue.
