A California Highway Patrol officer safely ended a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle near Atwater, authorities said Friday.
According to the CHP Merced Area office, Officer Mason was patrolling near Santa Fe Avenue and Beachwood Drive when he received information from dispatch about an occupied stolen vehicle in the area.
Moments later, he located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled northbound on Highway 99.
The pursuit ended when the suspect pulled over on the right shoulder just south of Applegate Road. The driver was taken into custody without injury.
CHP officials credited Mason’s training and quick decision-making for bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.
