Fresno State will now notify students and employees if immigration enforcement is confirmed on the property.
Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval said Thursday the university has established a notification process to comply with California’s new Sending Alerts to Families in Education (SAFE) Act, which requires colleges to inform their campus communities if immigration enforcement activity occurs on university property.
Under the law, Fresno State will send a campus-wide email to students and employees if immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus, including the date, time, and general location of the activity, along with links to resources and support. Updates will also be shared on the university’s website and social media channels, the letter to the campus body said.
Jiménez-Sandoval said the university will confirm any enforcement activity before issuing an alert “to avoid unnecessary alarm.”
The Bulldog Text Alert system will remain reserved for emergencies involving immediate threats to health or safety.
Fresno State launched a comprehensive immigration resource site last spring and continues to offer support through the Student Health and Counseling Center, Dream Success Center, Employee Assistance Program and CSU immigration legal services.
“Fresno State serves a diverse community, and we remain committed to supporting the success and well-being of all students and employees,” Jiménez-Sandoval said in the message. “Our goal is to communicate clearly, act responsibly, and provide assistance to those who need it.”
