Fourteen people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during the California Highway Patrol’s 12-hour Halloween Maximum Enforcement Period in Fresno, authorities said.
The enforcement effort ran from 6 p.m. on Halloween to 6 a.m. the following morning and also resulted in two non-DUI arrests, two drivers cited for speeding over 100 mph, and 44 for speeding under 100 mph, the CHP Fresno office said Monday.
Officers also recorded 17 distracted driving violations, 13 vehicle impounds, one reckless driving incident, four seatbelt violations, and issued 99 verbal warnings.
The CHP shared a photo of one DUI crash aftermath, noting the driver survived after striking a tree.

“The better option is right in your hand… your phone,” the agency wrote, urging drivers to call a friend, use a ride-share, or get a tow instead of driving impaired.
