Fresno city officials declared Thursday, Oct. 30 as Central Valley Honor Flight Day, celebrating 12 years of honoring veterans through trips to the nation’s capital.
The nonprofit has flown over 2,200 veterans to Washington, D.C., giving them the chance to visit national war memorials and to meet their congressional representatives.
City leaders and organizers praised the efforts of volunteers, especially Nancy Walker, whose determination helped launch the program and bring this meaningful experience to veterans across the Central Valley.
“None of this would have ever happened without the spark that Nancy Walker lit,” said Central Valley Honor Flight founder Paul Loeffler.
