Merced police cited two men Thursday during a sting operation targeting adults who buy alcohol for minors.
Under officer supervision, minor decoys stood outside local businesses licensed to sell alcohol and asked adults to purchase drinks for them, the department said.
Of 19 adults approached at five stores, two — Robert Williams, 59, and Michael Thomas, 46 — agreed to buy alcohol and were cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Police said both men were also educated on the dangers of providing alcohol to underage drinkers.
The operation was funded by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which partnered with Merced police on the enforcement effort.
