The newly reopened Sequoia Brewing Co. has a special “(Un)Happy Hour” for furloughed federal employees and their families.

“Our team is here to make it easy — show your badge or .gov email and we’ll take care of the rest,. When the budget’s frozen, the beer isn’t.” Stacey Dwyer, Sequoia Brewing Co., operations manager

Until the government shutdown ends, the brewpub at Champlain and Perrin avenues in Fresno will offer 15% off all starters and Happy Hour well-drink pricing to people with a federal ID badge or a .gov email, according to a news release from the company. Contractors with an agency badge or letter of authorization can also get the deal.

“We know this period is stressful for a lot of local families,” said operations manager Stacey Dwyer in the release. “Our (Un)Happy Hour is a simple way to give folks a break with good food, fair prices and a place to unwind together.”

Champlain Location Reopened. Tower Likely to Follow Soon

Happy hour spans Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Starters include quesadillas, “beercuterie” boards, wings, nachos, mozzarella sticks, and more.

Sequoia Brewing Co. reopened this month after its sudden closure in February. A team of owners bought the brand, reopening the north Fresno location. Dwyer told GV Wire they are working “diligently” to reopen Tower District location, and it will likely open before year’s end.

It is uncertain whether the Visalia location will reopen, but not likely at this time, she said.

The team behind the reopening includes Fresno Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Scott Miller, who also owns Gazebo Gardens and co-owns the Tower District craft cocktail lounge Howlin’ Wolf.

Fresno Economic Development Corporation CEO Will Oliver bought into the project as did attorneys Ian Wieland and Joseph Doerr, and businessman Bill Avakian.

“Our team is here to make it easy — show your badge or .gov email and we’ll take care of the rest,” Dwyer said. “When the budget’s frozen, the beer isn’t.”
