A 16-year-old was taken into custody Saturday night after fleeing police in a reckless Chevrolet pickup and crashing at a busy intersection, the Visalia Police Department said in a statement.
Visalia police said officers were clearing a large party in the 4000 block of West Howard Street around 11:20 p.m. when the lifted pickup began driving recklessly near a crowd of pedestrians.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield.
The pursuit ended at Cameron Avenue and Mooney Boulevard, where the pickup collided with another car.
No serious injuries were reported, and those involved suffered only minor scrapes, police said.
After the crash, the teen tried to run from officers but was quickly apprehended.
Police said he was booked into the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility on multiple charges, including felony evading an officer with disregard for public safety, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence.
