Clovis High School had quite a Friday night.
First, it was announced at halftime of the Cougars’ football that the marching band and color guard will take part in the 2027 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. And then the football team polished off a 45-7 victory over Clovis North to improve to 6-1.
Cougars’ band director Esmeralda Rocha Lozano, who has kept the big news secret for several weeks, celebrated the big reveal with her students.
“It truly is a dream come true that has been years in the making. Marching down Colorado Boulevard is both a celebration of our students’ hard work and a tribute to the legacy of excellence that has defined our program for generations,” Rocha Lozano said.
The Clovis High band last marched in the Rose Parade in 1986.
The Rose Bowl caps the events in Pasadena. It will be a College Football Playoff semifinal game in 2027.
Fundraising Campaign Begins
Clovis High is one of five high schools from across the United States participating in the event.
“We spent months reviewing applications, resumes and videos. Frankly, we’ve been impressed with your musicality, esprit de corps and technical expertise,” said 2027 Tournament of Roses President Terry Madigan in a message displayed on the Lamonica Stadium videoboard.
The band is launching a campaign to raise about $400,000 to cover expenses for the week-long parade celebration. Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Clovis High Instrumental Music Boosters via QR code. Find out more at: www.clovishighband.com.
