A man was arrested late Sunday after leading police on a pursuit that ended in a crash near the Highway 198 and Highway 99 overpass, according to the Visalia Police Department.

Officers were called just after 11 p.m. to the 2700 block of South Sallee Court for a report of a possible domestic violence incident.

When they arrived, they learned that the suspect, David James Isquierdo, 29, had already left the area and was believed to be driving under the influence, police said.

Traffic Stop Turns Into Pursuit

Officers located Isquierdo traveling westbound on Highway 198 near Demaree Street and attempted a traffic stop. Police said Isquierdo did not yield and continued driving, prompting a pursuit.

Officers ended the chase after Isquierdo allegedly turned off his lights and began speeding, creating a serious risk to public safety.

Moments later, police said, Isquierdo crashed his vehicle into a dirt ditch near the Highway 198 and Highway 99 overpass and tried to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

He was transported to Kaweah Health for medical clearance.

Once cleared, police said Isquierdo will be booked into the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery, felony evading a peace officer, driving under the influence, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.
