If you woke up on Friday angry and disgusted by the Los Angeles Rams’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers, you’re not alone. Sean McVay feels the same way.

Even 12 hours removed from the Rams’ 26-23 overtime loss on Thursday night, McVay still isn’t over it. He was still understandably frustrated during his media session on Friday morning, echoing the thoughts of every Rams fan the day after the game.

Like so many others, he feels like Los Angeles is a couple of plays away from being 5-0, but instead, the team is a disappointing 3-2, sitting a game behind the 49ers in the NFC West.

Between this loss and the heartbreaker to the Eagles in Week 3, McVay doesn’t remember ever feeling more disgusted the morning after than he has following those two losses.

“You want to talk about two gut punches in terms of how we’ve lost the two games that we have,” he said. “We’re a couple execution plays away from being a 5-0 team, but the reality is we’re 3-2. How we move forward and how we use this – I can’t remember feeling much more disgusted waking up after a tough loss than I have after the two that we’ve had and it’s because I love this group so much.”

McVay took the blame for the Rams’ loss on Thursday night, saying it was a “bad call” on fourth-and-1 to run it the way they did. He said he put the team in a “s—-ty spot” and needs to be better as a play caller.

He was still dejected over that decision Friday when speaking to reporters, but he’s also confident the Rams are made of the right stuff to bounce back and be the team they’re capable of becoming.

“It’s why I said what I did to you guys yesterday is because I feel a tremendous responsibility to do a good job of trying to put our players in positions to have successful outcomes,” he said. “When I don’t think I’ve done that or when I think I’ve can do better or we can do better, it chaps me to no end. I promise you this, I’m going to work my (expletive) off to make sure that I continue to be better for this group. Those are the expectations that I know that everybody in our building will have. This is going to galvanize us. I promise you that.”

The Rams will have some extra time to stew over this loss with their next game not coming until Oct. 12 against the Ravens, but they’ll try to turn the page on it at some point over the weekend and begin focusing on Baltimore.

Every loss in the NFL hurts, but the way the Rams lost those two was excruciating.
