The San Francisco 49ers have started their campaign with a 4-1 record, but some of their key players have suffered significant injuries early on, including defensive lineman Kalia Davis, who left Thursday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams in the second quarter.

On Friday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Davis suffered a broken hand in the contest that will require surgery. He went on to say that Davis is expected to miss at least a couple games and return with a club on his hand.

Davis had been playing a bigger role in 2025 than in his first two seasons with the club, as he’s been on the field for a career-high 41% of their defensive snaps through five games while recording seven tackles and two for a loss.

Without Davis and with Kevin Givens on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, the 49ers are getting thin along their defensive line. They have Jordan Elliott and the rookie trio of Mykel Williams, C.J. West and Alfred Collins to play inside on the active roster, and they could call up Sebastian Valdez and/or Evan Anderson from the practice squad if needed.
