LeBron James is going into his 23rd NBA season, which will set an all-time record for the most seasons anyone has played in the league. Even though he’s 40 years of age and will turn 41 in December, he hasn’t really shown any signs of slowing down.
Last season, he averaged 24.4 points on 51.3% field-goal shooting and 37.6% from 3-point range, 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds a game. He was named to not only the All-Star team but also the All-NBA Second team as he continued to amaze people with his insane longevity.
People have been concerned that James will experience an inevitable decline, and perhaps a sharp one, for the last several years. But in a recent interview with CGTN Sports Scene, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar downplayed those concerns.
“Age doesn’t matter. Age is just a number. I definitely feel energetic any time I’m out there on the floor, trying to give everything I got to my teammates, and just go out there and win.”
Now that James is playing off the ball more than ever before thanks to the arrival of Luka Doncic, he could perhaps age even more gracefully than he already has.
He’s under contract for one more season, but it isn’t a foregone conclusion that the 2025-26 campaign will be his last with the Purple and Gold.
