Fire crews held the Garnet Fire within its footprint overnight as favorable weather helped improve containment lines, officials said Thursday.
The blaze in the Sierra National Forest has burned 57,004 acres and is 15% contained, according to the latest update from the U.S. Forest Service.
Nearly 2,900 personnel remain assigned to the fire.

Evacuation Orders, Warnings
Authorities have issued evacuation orders for zones K27, K28, K29, K30, K31, K32A, K40, K61A, and K166 due to an immediate threat to life. The areas are closed to public access.
Evacuation warnings were issued for zones K26, K32B, K41, K60, K61B, K74, K76, K85, K160, and K165, advising residents with pets or livestock, or anyone needing extra time, to leave now.

Cooler temperatures and higher humidity allowed crews to mop up within 100 feet of containment lines, extinguishing hotspots, burning stumps and hazard trees. Progress was also made on spot fires along the northwest flank near Bear Meadow.
Partly to mostly cloudy skies and smoky conditions are expected Thursday with a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Air quality will range from moderate to unhealthy in some areas, though wind shifts could ease smoke impacts, officials said.
A partial forest closure implemented Aug. 28 remains in effect to protect firefighters and visitors, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
