The Los Angeles Rams could catch a break in Week 5 when they face the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. Though there’s still another month until that game is played, it’s clear the 49ers are going to be shorthanded no matter what.
Earlier this week, the 49ers put star tight end George Kittle on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, sidelining him for at least four games. That rules him out for Rams-49ers in Week 5, leaving San Francisco without its most dangerous pass catcher.
On Thursday, it was reported that Brock Purdy will miss 2-5 weeks with a form of turf toe. That also puts his status into question for Week 5 against Los Angeles. He could be back in time, but it’s not certain – especially with that being a Thursday night game, giving him less time to get healthy.
Without Purdy or Kittle, the 49ers offense will be in rough shape. Brandon Aiyuk is also on the PUP list and targeting a Week 6 return, while Jauan Jennings and Christian McCaffrey have dealt with injuries of their own already this season, too.
A lot of people expect a bounce-back from the 49ers this year after an injury-riddled 2024 campaign but despite starting 1-0, they’re in rough shape to begin the year.
