A Fresno man was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for firing an AR-15 style rifle from a moving vehicle in a residential neighborhood.
Timothy Scott Chenot, 34, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff to seven years and three months for being a felon in possession of ammunition, U.S. Attorney Eric Grant said.
Court documents show that on the night of Aug. 2, 2024, Chenot drove through a southeast Fresno neighborhood, firing a .223 caliber rifle out of his truck window.
Several rounds struck unoccupied cars before Chenot discarded the firearm and drove away. Police stopped and arrested him, recovering the rifle, spent shells, ammunition, and open alcoholic containers in the truck.
The case was investigated by the Fresno Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cody S. Chapple prosecuted the case.
