A Delta Air Lines passenger says he was slapped by a flight attendant on a flight to Fresno and is seeking $20 million for fear and humiliation he says he endured, USA Today reported.

Mohammad Shibli told Atlanta-area media on Aug. 26 that the incident occurred July 29 while flying from Atlanta with his family.

He said the flight attendant initially refused to serve him and his wife water, using a “very disrespectful tone,” and later whispered a vulgar word before striking him with an open palm.

Shibli’s attorney said that Shibli’s wife was wearing a shirt with “Palestine” on it, and said that may have been a factor in the incident.

Shibli said the incident left him embarrassed and fearful for his family.

Delta is investigating and has suspended the flight attendant.

A spokesperson said the airline prioritizes safety and is taking the matter seriously. Shibli’s attorney said the family is demanding compensation equal to a day of Delta’s profits and sensitivity training on Palestine for staff.
