A 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times but is expected to survive after a series of shootings in Hanford that led to the arrests of two juvenile suspects, police said Wednesday.
Officers responded Monday afternoon to reports of gunfire near the Western States Inn at 11th Avenue and Davis Street, where they found shell casings but no victims, the Hanford Police Department said.
Less than an hour later, police were called to Lacey Park and found a 17-year-old with gunshot wounds to his legs and upper back. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
Investigators identified another 17-year-old boy as the suspected shooter in the park and linked him to earlier gunfire near the motel.
On Tuesday morning, police located the suspect near a Pizza Hut on 11th Avenue. He ran from officers and pulled a gun from his waistband before being surrounded and taken into custody, police said. Officers recovered a 9mm handgun without serial numbers.
The teen was booked into the Kings County Juvenile Center on suspicion of attempted murder and firearm possession.
Later that day, police arrested another juvenile believed to be involved in the Western States Inn shooting. He was booked on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, firearm possession and possession of ammunition.
