The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols Saturday, looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Police reminded the public that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol.
Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely, the department said.
While marijuana use is legal in California, driving under its influence is not.
A first-time DUI offense carries an average cost of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license, according to police.
The patrols are funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, using federal money from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
