The $41.7 million facility is expected to open in summer 2027.

“This center had to make Fresno proud and, yes, it had to outshine and be bigger and better than Clovis’s.” — Jake Lingo, senior vice president, Integrated Community Development

City officials and the developer provided details at the groundbreaking Tuesday morning.

“This is a big day for Fresno,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “Our senior community was asking for a place where they can connect, stay active, and enjoy life to the fullest — and we listened. This center will be a vibrant hub for wellness, learning, socializing, and will serve seniors from every corner of our city.”

Builder Jake Lingo of Integrated Community Development drew the loudest cheers when he said, “This center had to make Fresno proud and, yes, it had to outshine and be bigger and better than Clovis’s.”

To which Dyer said, “Amen.”

The Clovis Senior Activity Center is a state-of-the art facility featuring a 300-person banquet hall with a stage, rooms for enrichment classes, billiards, and a gym.

Funding is provided by Measure P sales taxes, Community Development Block Grant funds, park impact fees, and the city’s general fund.

The 4.5 acre site is at 4343 N. Blackstone Ave. near Ashlan Avenue. The property there previously housed several supermarkets, including Vons and Continental Market.
