Unless you’re a huge fan of triple-digit temperatures in Fresno, you might want to plan to visit the coast or the Sierra starting Wednesday.

The National Weather Service is predicting a return of 100-plus degree days in Fresno and the Valley by midweek, meteorologist Stephen McCoy said Monday.

Temperatures will be hotter on the west side of the Valley, including western Kings County and northwestern Kern County, where the thermometer could hit 105 degrees later this week, McCoy said.

Fresno will be a few degrees cooler, starting with a forecast high of 101 on Wednesday and 102 forecast for Thursday through Sunday, he said.

The likelihood of the triple digits continuing past next Monday for at least a week is strong at this point, McCoy said. But he added that the forecast through the end of the month is a toss-up on whether temperatures will be cooler or warmer than average.

The upcoming spate of hotter weather comes on the heels of cooler-than-average temperatures that were caused by a low-pressure system that lingered over the Gulf of Alaska, he said. It’s now dissipating, and the Valley’s weather will be governed by a high-pressure system that’s growing over the Four Corners region of the Southwest that will raise temperatures in central and Southern California.

Lowest Monthly Average Since 2001

Fresno can thank that Gulf of Alaska weather system for an unusually cool July, with the lowest monthly average since 2001, McCoy said.

July is typically Fresno’s hottest month, and over the last two decades the monthly average temperature has steadily climbed, so 2025 may be an outlier.

Here’s the forecast for today through next Monday for Fresno: Today, high of 94, overnight low of 64; Tuesday, high of 96, overnight low of 67; Wednesday, high of 101, overnight low 71; Thursday, high of 102, overnight low 70; Friday, high of 102, overnight low 72; Saturday, 102 and overnight low 71; Sunday, 102 and overnight low 71; Monday, 101.
