Tuolumne Meadows Campground, Yosemite’s largest and highest-elevation campground, is set to reopen Friday, Aug. 1, according to the National Park Service.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that Tuolumne Meadows Campground cost $26.2 million to renovate.

The campground, perched at 8,000 feet along Tioga Road near the Tuolumne River, had been closed for construction and its annual winter shutdown.

Known for its sweeping summer access to high country trails, alpine lakes, and scenic vistas, Tuolumne Meadows is about 90 minutes from Yosemite Valley and offers seasonal amenities such as flush toilets, potable water, food storage lockers, trash and recycling services, and staff on site.

Park Peak Hours Reservations

Park visitors will likely need a peak-hours reservation on some days through Sept. 1. Visitors who plan to enter the park between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. through Aug. 15 or Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30–Sept. 1) are likely to need a peak-hours reservation.

Internet access is not available, and cell phone service is limited and seasonal.

The site includes 315 total campsites — 149 reserved for tents, two for RVs, four for horses, and seven for groups. There are no showers or electric hookups. Each campsite contains a fire ring, picnic table, and food locker.

For those who are looking for an accessible spot, the National Park Service says they have multiple sites that are suitable for wheelchairs and include picnic tables with extended tops.

Fires are allowed when the campground is open, and a seasonal amphitheater provides ranger-led programming.

Reservations for standard and tent-only sites cost $36 per night. Group sites are $75, and horse sites are $50. The campground is closed during the winter and on major holidays.

Nearby, campers will find a small store, grill, and post office in Tuolumne Meadows.

The site can be accessed via Tioga Road, about 17 miles west of Tioga Pass or 54 miles northeast of Yosemite Valley.
