Fresno firefighters rescued a cat from a burning home Saturday night as a residential fire left a house with significant damage and displaced its residents, officials said.
The blaze was reported around 8:40 p.m. on the 4300 block of North Gearhart Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported seeing flames.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home and were told someone might still be inside.
Firefighters searched the residence but confirmed no one was inside or injured. They did, however, safely rescue a cat from the home.
A total of 22 firefighters responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The home sustained moderate to major damage, and the occupants were displaced.
Officials reminded the public to maintain working smoke alarms and never reenter a burning building for pets.
