The Maddy Institute will host its 11th Annual Sacramento Reception on Wednesday, Aug. 27, celebrating the San Joaquin Valley’s influence at the State Capitol and marking the nonprofit’s 25th anniversary.
“For 25 years, The Maddy Institute has been building bridges between the San Joaquin Valley and our state’s Capitol,” Maddy Institute Executive Director Blake Zante said. “This year’s Sacramento reception is not just a celebration of that legacy — it’s a recommitment to our mission of preparing the next generation of Valley leaders and ensuring that the voices of our region are heard in the policy decisions that shape California’s future.”
Held at the California Museum in downtown Sacramento, the public event will bring together state leaders, Valley legislators, local elected officials, lobbyists, and supporters. The evening includes a cocktail reception and remarks from UC Merced Chancellor Juan Sánchez Muñoz.
Legacy Award for Poochigian
The reception will also feature the presentation of the Legacy Award to 5th District Court of Appeal Associate Justice Chuck Poochigian. The honor is for Poochigian’s foundational role in the institute and decades of public service. Before being appointed to the appellate bench by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009, Poochigian served in the state Assembly and Senate.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the institute’s public leadership programs, including the Bob Beverly Sacramento Legislative Internship Program, which places Central Valley students in legislative offices.
Tickets are $250, and registration closes Aug. 20. Register here.
Sponsorships are available through The Maddy Institute.
