Fresno police have arrested a suspect in connection with a July 6 shooting that left one person injured in a northwest Fresno parking lot, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation just after 9 p.m. near Shaw and Marks avenues and found four shell casings at the scene.
While canvassing the area, officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Detectives from the department’s Felony Assault Unit reviewed surveillance video that showed the victim being chased by four males before being shot by one of them. With help from Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium detectives, police identified the shooter as Julian Nathaniel Benavidez.
Benavidez was arrested without incident on Thursday after officers served a warrant for his arrest, police said. A firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered during a search of a residence.
Benavidez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple felony charges, including assault with a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and several firearm enhancements.
He was also arrested in connection with a separate case involving firearm possession, authorities noted.
