Americans are increasingly embracing immigration, with a record 79% saying it’s good for the country, according to a new Gallup poll. The share of adults who want immigration levels reduced has dropped sharply to 30%, down from 55% a year ago.
The poll, conducted June 2-26, shows a broad shift across party lines. Republican support for reducing immigration has fallen 40 percentage points to 48%, while Democrats and independents also show double-digit drops. Meanwhile, support for allowing undocumented immigrants to become U.S. citizens has risen to 78%, including a 13-point increase among Republicans.
Public backing for stricter enforcement measures has declined. Just 45% support expanding the U.S.-Mexico border wall, and 38% back mass deportations — down from 47% in 2024. Hiring more border agents is supported by 59%, down from 76% last year.
President Donald Trump’s immigration policies remain unpopular. Only 35% of Americans approve of his handling of the issue, with just 21% approval among Hispanic adults.
The poll suggests attitudes toward immigration are returning to pre-2021 levels, with more Americans favoring integration over hardline enforcement. Gallup surveyed 1,402 adults, including oversamples of Hispanic and Black respondents, weighted to reflect national demographics.
