A fire broke out Thursday at the Fresno Mission Thrift Store, burning through piles of donations and forcing a road closure and temporary store shutdown, officials said.
Fresno Fire crews responded to the scene on Sierra Avenue between Blackstone Avenue and Highway 41, where flames had ignited in a large donation pile located in the store’s storage area.
The fire spread to a nearby shipping container but was stopped before reaching the main building, the Fresno Fire Department told GV Wire. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The blaze originated in a section of new donations — an area where people drop off items and staff have not yet processed them — according to Matthew Dildine, CEO of the Fresno Mission.
He estimated that 20 to 30 pallets of donated goods were damaged.
As firefighters continue their work, Sierra Avenue remains closed, Fresno Fire said.
The thrift store will remain closed for the rest of Thursday and will not accept donations for at least a week, Dildine said.
Donors are encouraged to donate at FresnoMission.org.
