A suspected DUI driver crashed into a parked California Highway Patrol motorcycle and tow truck along Highway 99 near North Avenue, missing a CHP officer and several bystanders, authorities said.

The crash happened while the officer was off the motorcycle investigating an earlier collision, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday. No one was injured.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.

“Officers face many dangers every day while working to keep the public safe,” CHP officials said in a statement. “We don’t need anyone adding to those dangers by driving drunk or high.”

Authorities are urging the public to report suspected impaired drivers and to intervene if they see someone attempting to drive after using alcohol or drugs.
