San Luis Obispo's Madre Fire Grows to 8,300 Acres, Prompts Evacuations

A fast-moving wildfire in San Luis Obispo County has grown from 3,306 to 8,396 acres with zero containment as of Wednesday afternoon, according to CalFire.

Known as the Madre Fire, the blaze was first reported at 1:07 p.m. Wednesday and is burning in the Los Padres National Forest near Highway 166 and the community of New Cuyama.

Evacuation orders have now been issued for Zone SLC-337, with warnings in place for Zone SLC-312.

Authorities urge residents in the area to remain alert and be prepared to evacuate as conditions change.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
