A Madera County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Tuesday during a violent encounter with a wanted felon near the Fresno River, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.

Just after 9:30 a.m., deputies attempted to arrest Felix Adrian Nucamendi Carrasco, 40, near the Santa Fe train tracks following confirmation of an outstanding warrant and a probation hold.

The day before, Carrasco had been contacted during a separate investigation into a nearby fire.

Authorities said Carrasco violently resisted arrest, striking the deputy multiple times in the head and kicking him before fleeing the scene.

A coordinated search led to Carrasco’s arrest a short time later near Raymond Road.

Emergency medical personnel treated the deputy at the scene for swelling to the head and he is expected to recover, authorities said.

Deputies said they recovered multiple glass pipes commonly used for methamphetamine from Carrasco’s encampment.

Carrasco was booked into the Madera County Jail on charges including resisting arrest with violence, probation violations tied to two open cases, and the outstanding warrant.
