Four young men were rescued Tuesday afternoon after getting stranded during a float down the Kings River, authorities said.
The group ran into trouble while trying to navigate rapids near Riverbend and Annadale avenues in Sanger, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Three of the men made it to safety on a small island, while the fourth clung to a tree in the fast-moving water.
All four were wearing life jackets, which officials said likely helped prevent a tragedy.
Around 3:30 p.m., CalFire crews used a boat to bring the three stranded men off the island.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff’s EAGLE One helicopter crew hoisted the man holding onto the tree using a cinch collar and safely lowered him to shore.
The Sheriff’s Office urged the public to be cautious when floating the river, wear life jackets, and invest in proper rafting equipment.
