A California Highway Patrol officer died early Wednesday after suffering a suspected medical emergency while on duty in West Los Angeles, authorities said.
Officer Miguel Cano, 35, was on patrol around 12:28 a.m. when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree, the CHP said in a statement.
Emergency crews transported him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he died at around 1:40 a.m.
Cano, identified by badge number 23555, was remembered by the agency as a dedicated public servant who embodied “courage, commitment, and compassion.” The CHP said his service to the people of California “will never be forgotten.”
He is survived by his wife and parents. The agency extended its condolences to Cano’s family, friends, and fellow officers.
