Fresno police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Friday morning in the city’s southwest area.

Officers from the Southwest Policing District responded to a ShotSpotter activation indicating three rounds fired near South Plumas Street and East Lorena Avenue around 2:09 a.m., authorities said.

While en route, police received additional reports of a gunshot victim in a nearby parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found Julian Garcia, 27, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Police and emergency medical personnel performed first aid, and Garcia was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:39 a.m.

Detectives say Garcia had been involved in a verbal altercation in the parking lot with an unknown male before the suspect opened fire. The suspect fled, and no arrests have been made.
