Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, voiced strong opposition to U.S. involvement in a potential Israeli strike on Iran, breaking with Trump’s latest stance, The Independent reported.
Greene voiced the opposition ahead of Israel’s attacks on Iran, which began on Friday. Iran is answering back with missile strikes on Israel.
“Americans don’t want to bomb Iran because the secular government of Israel says that Iran is on the verge of developing a nuclear bomb any day now,” Greene tweeted Wednesday night. She added, “I don’t know anyone that even thinks about Iran” in her district.
Her comments followed reports that the U.S. State Department ordered nonessential embassy staff to leave Baghdad due to concerns over escalating violence tied to a possible Israeli attack. On Thursday, Trump told reporters an Israeli strike on Iran “could very well happen.”
Sen. Tom Cotton said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. Trump has said Iran “can’t have a nuclear weapon.”
Greene’s stance aligns with isolationist and progressive opposition to further U.S. military entanglements, highlighting divides within the Republican Party over foreign policy.
