A YouGov survey conducted Tuesday indicates that 47% of adults in the United States disapprove of the President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy Marines to the deportation protests in Los Angeles.
That compares to 34% who approve the president’s move, which will cost taxpayers $134 million for the 60-day deployment of 700 Marines, according to the Secretary of Defense.
Nineteen percent of respondents said they weren’t sure.
The survey involved 4,309 U.S. adults, YouGov said.
Strong Opposition in West, Northeast
Opposition to the deployments was strongest in the West (54%) and Northeast (53%). The two regions with the highest support for using the Marines are the Midwest (38%) and South (37%).
However, the survey indicates staunch support for the president’s decision among Republicans (68%). Seventy-five percent of Democrats and 50% of Independents disapprove of the deployments.
Breaking the question down by gender: 48% of men and 47% of women disapprove, with 24% of women saying they weren’t sure. Thirty-eight percent of men and 30% of women support the president’s use of the Marines.
