With temperatures projected to reach or exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday, cooling centers will open across Fresno and Clovis to provide relief from the extreme heat.
The National Weather Service in Hanford issued the high-temperature forecast, prompting both cities to activate heat response measures.
In Fresno, three community centers will be open to the public from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday:
- Ted C. Wills Community Center, 770 N. San Pablo Ave.
- Mosqueda Community Center, 4670 E. Butler Ave.
- Maxie L. Parks Community Center, 1802 E. California Ave.
Fresno Area Express will provide free transportation along its normal bus routes to the cooling centers while they are in operation, the city of Fresno said in a social media post.
Additional updates and criteria for Fresno cooling center operations can be found at www.fresno.gov/coolingcenter.
An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for much of Central CA valid from 11 AM Fri-7 AM Sun. Max temps will rise well above normal, with highs up to 105° and lead to Major Heat Risk. This level of heat can cause heat-related illnesses for much of the population. #CAwx pic.twitter.com/Hl0ppuSdGo
