A Tulare man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stabbing another man during an argument over property, police said.

Officers responded around 3:55 p.m. to reports of a fight in the 200 block of West Inyo Avenue, according to the Tulare Police Department.

The caller reported that one of the men involved had been stabbed and walked away from the scene.

When officers arrived, they found evidence of the altercation but both the suspect and victim had fled. Witnesses provided descriptions of those involved, and officers began searching the area.

Police detained a man matching one of the descriptions a short time later. He had blood on him and admitted to being in a fight, though he denied being the victim. Independent witnesses identified him as the suspect.

After an extensive search, officers located the 64-year-old stabbing victim, who had multiple stab wounds. The man, a Tulare resident, confirmed he had been stabbed by Pedro Gonzalez Becerra, 47, during the argument.

He was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He is being booked into the South County Detention Facility.
