The Fresno Police Department will conduct a traffic safety operation Saturday aimed at cracking down on dangerous driver behaviors that put bicyclists and pedestrians at risk.

The enforcement effort will take place from noon to 10 p.m. and focus on violations such as speeding, illegal turns, failing to yield to pedestrians or bicyclists, and ignoring traffic signs and signals, officials said.

Police urged drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists to take extra precautions to avoid crashes.

They advised pedestrians to use crosswalks, wear visible clothing, and avoid walking into the path of vehicles. Drivers were reminded to slow down at intersections, stop for pedestrians in crosswalks, and never drive impaired.

Bicyclists were encouraged to follow traffic laws, use bike lanes when possible, and wear helmets.

The operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
