A fire damaged a home and displaced two residents in Fresno on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Just after 12:30 p.m., firefighters responded to multiple reports of a structure fire near Liberty Avenue and 5th Street, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

Neighbors who saw smoke coming from the house helped the two residents safely escape before crews arrived, officials said.

Firefighters found smoke coming from the home and launched an aggressive attack, ultimately containing the accidental fire, which was sparked by a faulty appliance.

The blaze caused significant damage to the kitchen and spread into the attic, but crews were able to save most of the homeowner’s belongings, officials said.

No injuries were reported, but the two residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

The fire department urged residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms and to evacuate immediately if a fire breaks out.
