A routine traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Fresno County led to the discovery of 13 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $600,000, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

A CHP Central Division K-9 sergeant pulled over a 2018 Honda Accord for a traffic violation on Thursday. During the stop, the sergeant observed signs of possible criminal activity, leading to a search with the help of additional K-9 units.

Authorities said the team located a sophisticated hidden compartment built into the vehicle’s exhaust tunnel and accessible through the center console. Inside, they found the cocaine.

The driver, who has not been identified, was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.

The driver faces multiple charges, including possession of cocaine for sale, transportation of cocaine across noncontiguous counties, and possession of an aftermarket compartment used to transport narcotics, authorities said.
