Authorities in Madera County have recovered roughly $80,000 worth of stolen property and arrested two men in connection with a string of 13 commercial burglaries across the county, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Investigations Unit launched a coordinated investigation after identifying a pattern linking the burglaries. Detectives executed multiple search warrants alongside members of the Madera Special Investigations Team and the Madera Narcotic Enforcement Team.

The investigation led to the recovery of a stolen pickup truck, three Vespa scooters, and five truckloads of stolen property. Officials said numerous victims have been contacted and their property returned.

Cody McGinnis, 38, and Luis Velasco, 45, both of Fairmead, were arrested on multiple felony charges.

McGinnis faces counts including burglary, vehicle theft, and receiving stolen property. Velasco was booked on charges including criminal conspiracy, burglary, and receiving stolen property. Additional charges are pending.

“Those who think they can prey on our community and get away with it should think again,” Sheriff Tyson Pogue said in a statement. “Our investigators put in the hard work to follow the evidence, track down the suspects, and recover thousands in stolen property. This kind of criminal activity won’t be tolerated in Madera County.”
