Officers conducting a traffic stop near the nightclub shortly after midnight heard gunfire coming from the parking lot, the Fresno Police Department said in a statement.
As they arrived, security guards and patrons reported that a suspect had fled on foot while firing shots.
McDonough was found hiding near a business dumpster with a gunshot wound to his lower leg, authorities said.
The other man, also 26 years old, was taken to a nearby hospital and was reported in stable condition for his gunshot wound.

Detectives determined that McDonough and the victim had been arguing in the parking lot before McDonough pulled out a handgun and opened fire.
As he ran, an armed security guard returned fire, striking him in the leg, police said.
Investigators recovered McDonough’s firearm and clothing he discarded while fleeing.
After receiving medical treatment, he was booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and firearm violations.
