The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office identified the deceased man as Tyrone Lee, 30, of Elk Grove.

Original Story

A driver was killed early Thursday after being ejected from his vehicle and struck by another car on Highway 99 near Manning Avenue, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash at 12:36 a.m. after reports of a possible ejection.

Officers determined the driver of an Acura MDX had been traveling westbound on Manning Avenue at high speed when the vehicle hit two raised curbs, went airborne for approximately 120 feet, and crashed into the dirt shoulder of northbound Highway 99.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll over, ejecting the driver onto the roadway, where he was struck by a Nissan Sentra.

The driver of the Nissan stopped and remained at the scene, CHP said.

Investigators believe the driver of the Acura died from injuries sustained in the initial crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

It was not immediately clear whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
