According to The Economic Times, President Donald Trump’s net approval rating has plunged to unprecedented lows, marking a significant decline since the beginning of the year.
Recent polls from major news outlets and research institutions reveal a sharp 9-point drop in Trump’s approval rating, from plus-7 in January to minus-2 in March 2025.

Unprecedented Unpopularity in Modern History
CNN analyst Harry Enten highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “Trump’s approval is so low that he only matches himself — nobody else has been this unpopular in modern history.” This sentiment is echoed across various polls, indicating a widespread negative perception of the president’s performance.
Historically, Trump’s numbers stand out as an anomaly. Since 1937, every U.S. president has maintained a positive net approval rating at this stage of their presidency. Trump, however, continues to break this trend, remaining “underwater” in public opinion.

Experts attribute this decline to Trump’s divisive leadership style and inability to appeal to undecided voters. His controversial policies and rhetoric have alienated key demographics, contributing to his consistently low approval ratings.
While Trump’s current numbers show a slight improvement from his 2017 figures, analysts argue that this is hardly a victory.
As Enten noted, “When you’re only matching yourself and you’re still underwater, that’s not a win.”
